Robbins Review Vignettes

A 49-year-old woman has been bothered for at least 20 years by recurring skin lesions that are most prominent over the elbows and knees and also sometimes on the scalp and lumbosacral area. These skin lesions are silvery to salmon-colored 1- to 4-cm plaques with scaling. The lesions seem to form more readily at sites of minor trauma, such as a superficial abrasion. She has had increasing pain in her left hand and in her hips, more prominent on the left, over the past 2 years. On physical examination, she has yellow-brown discoloration with pitting of the fingernails. The distal interphalangeal joints of digits two and three of the left hand are slightly swollen and tender. There is minimal reduction in left hip mobility and no swelling or warmth to the touch. A radiograph of the left hip shows minimal joint space narrowing and surface erosion. Bone density is not markedly reduced. During the next 10 years, the joint pain persists, but there is no joint destruction or deformity. She continues to have the same skin lesions. Which of the following is most likely to be seen on biopsy of these skin lesions? Bandlike upper dermal infiltrate of lymphocytesEpidermal spongiosis with dermal edema and eosinophilsFocal keratinocyte apoptosisHyperkeratosis with parakeratosis and elongated rete ridgesHemat TnD will be live tomorrow  - Get access to all Tnd - Enrol to Pathology Revision course - Subscribe here today

No more underdogs

Have you ever noticed that most of the movie which features underdogs is a success ? Like even in IPL most of us become happy when an underdogs performs well when compared to an established player ?Do you ever think why ? The reason is simple - we relate to them so easily. It's deeep in our brains that we are tuned to think we are underdogs by various external factors for various gains -  that's the reason whenever you feel an underdog win you almost consider that as your victory. Same things happened with the movie Slum dog millionaire or Lagaan or the Monsters Inc or any movie you remember. My personal opinion is that this thought process should change, you are not an underdogs and there is no victory by luck. Change your attitude. !There is only one things which gives you success and that is tireless hardwork towards a goal. And don't ever consider that you are underdog, you are a #pathocub and you are born to win with your hardwork, and the only ladyluck you possess is your mother and no one else. You struggle, you burn the midnight oil, you win. Period. ! And you will win no second thoughts :) A very good morning !

Chorionic villus sampling This technique, typically performed at 10–12 weeks’ gestation, involves the removal of a small sample of chorionic villus material (either a transcervical or a transabdominal approach may be used). The villi are of fetal origin and thus provide a large sample of actively dividing fetal cells for diagnosis. This technique has the advantage of providing a diagnosis earlier in the pregnancy. There is a small possibility of diagnostic error because of placental mosaicism (i.e., multiple cell types in the villi). The risk of fetal demise is higher than with amniocentesis (about 1/100). Get to know the recent advances and practical application in Pathology - Must need for NEET  - Enrol to Pathology revision series - Subscribe here today
